Brookston Energy Inc.’s relationship with our interest owners is an integral part of our business. We understand how important your ownership is to you, and we believe that communication is critical to maintaining a good relationship. Our goal is to provide all owners with a high level of service. We are committed to answering inquiries in a professional, timely, and accurate manner.

Changes in Marital Status

If your name has changed due to marriage or divorce, please provide us with a copy of your marriage certificate or divorce decree (first page and signature pages). If your address has also changed, please provide your new address as well, using the address change form.

If the property has been divided by the divorce decree, the full decree is required and must be accompanied by a recorded conveyance document covering the property involved. Please see our important documents tab for a complete list of required documents to make the necessary changes to your account.

Address Changes

For your royalty checks to be issued timely by Brookston Energy, Inc. and delivered timely by the U.S. Postal Service, Brookston Energy, Inc. must be notified in writing of all changes of address as soon as possible. A postal forwarding order is insufficient and will result in royalty checks being returned to Brookston Energy, Inc. and your account suspended. 

Click here for an Address Change Form. Please be sure to include all owner numbers. Additionally, if the owner on record is listed as more than one individual, signature is required by each and every person listed.

Changes will be made effective as soon as possible upon receipt by Brookston Energy, Inc. However, changes must be received by Brookston Energy, Inc. by the last business day of the month to ensure the change for that month’s check.

Direct Deposit

We offer the opportunity for you to receive your revenue/royalty payment via direct deposit (electronic funds transfer). Owners enrolled in our Direct Deposit Program receive check detail in pdf format via the e-mail address they provide on the Direct Deposit form, NOT by US mail. When dealing with land and mineral rights, a change in ownership or owner status require updated title records. Owners should ensure they have the appropriate documentation, which is outlined below for each type of change in interest. Requirements may vary depending on the jurisdiction.

In addressing any ownership change situation, please note the following:

  • All payees are required to evidence a valid Social Security or Tax Identification number by IRS Form W9, or federal law requires tax withholding.
  • All documents related to a change of ownership must be filed of record in the county/parish where the property is located.
  • Laws of agency preclude us from providing forms for conveying real property interests. However, you may contact an attorney, Legal Aid Society or your local Bar Association for assistance in handling these matters.
  • Address changes cannot be handled by telephone. Complete the Change of Address form, located on the Important Forms page.
  • Retain your check detail for future reference.
